     14:45 - 16:15

Italian exhibitions (in Italy and abroad)

The first workshop of the GRS ExpoNetwork Forum 2023 focuses on the current state of the Italian exhibition sector. The session will present and discuss the findings of the latest research conducted by GRS in May 2023. The data will provide valuable insights into the sector, offering a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by the Italian exhibition sector.

During the workshop, a distinguished C-level panel from the Italian exhibition sector will join the discussion. The panel comprises influential leaders who bring their expertise and perspectives to the table, contributing to a dynamic and insightful dialogue. Together, they will analyze the research findings, identify key trends, and explore strategies for the sector's growth and development.

Sustainability as a competitive advantage of the exhibition

Sustainability is at the heart of the agenda of public entities and private companies. The exhibition system is called to a strong commitment to increase its sustainability. Not only is it important that everyone does their part to face key challenges for the planet, but the market itself requires it and the sustainability policies implemented by trade fairs today represent an increasingly decisive element in the choice of various companies whether to participate or not at a demonstration.

What does sustainability mean for a fair? What are the main drivers? Who are the main stakeholders? What initiatives can be taken by exhibitions and trade fair districts?

We talked about it with Gulsum Arslan (AVP Marketing & Data Strategy – Dubai World Trade Centre) and Clare Puddifoot (Chief Marketing Officer - Informa Markets EMEA).
    Workshop in English.

From theory to practice: a real example of sustainability certification

This informative workshop focuses on sustainability certification for exhibitions. ISO 20121 is an internationally recognized standard specifically designed for event sustainability management systems. The certification establishes a framework that guides organizations in integrating sustainability principles and practices into event planning and execution. It serves as a comprehensive roadmap to promote environmental responsibility, social inclusion and economic viability throughout the exhibition process.

During the workshop a real case history will be presented, which will give the participants a practical understanding of how ISO 20121 can be successfully implemented in the organization of a trade fair.

    H 16.15 – 16.45 | Coffee Break – Networking

    H 16.45 – 18.30 | SESSION #2

     16:45 - 18:30

Innovation and adaptation: evolutionary strategies for success in the exhibition sector

The pandemic has forced the exhibition industry to rethink the business and experiment with new products. With the removal of movement restrictions, trade fairs have returned to 2019 levels (with some having already updated their all-time highs) for what were historically the main metrics of the sector: number of visitors and square meters sold. However, the world is constantly evolving and the exhibition sector must also adapt to new trends.

How to promote a fair? How to leverage new tools? What generates more value for those who visit or exhibit at a fair? Is there a need to rethink the value proposition?

We talk about it with Faye Black (VP Marketing – dmg events) and Solenne Singer (Group Director, Healthcare – Informa Markets).
    Workshop in English.

Strategic research to support the business: leveraging data analytics in the exhibition sector

New scenarios are opening up for the trade fair industry: sustainability, advanced technologies, new business models drive change in the sector. What can trade fair organizers do to make informed decisions and lead the way in change? What are the data analysis techniques that offer the most interesting opportunities? How to work with data that the exhibition industry is unfamiliar with?

Andrea Nava (Research Manager – GRS) shows us some possibilities for analyzing data and insights available to the organizers.

A viable route to digital transformation and a new approach to data

After more than a decade of huge investments and organizational efforts that have not produced the digital transformation theoretically advocated, a less radical and more sustainable approach to introducing data-driven technologies and working practices is emerging. Sustainable not so much from an ESG point of view, but above all from an economic and organizational point of view.

In this speech, Prof. Gianluca Salviotti (SDA Bocconi) will highlight the characteristics of the so-called "minimum viable digital transformation", with particular emphasis on the role of data within this modern conception of the digital transition. Through the brief discussion of some cases, it will be demonstrated how with the approach described, digital transformation can become a native ability of trade fair operators and not the result of utopian long-term programs.
